MICHAEL ANASTASSIADES AT MILAN 2011

London-based designer Michael Anastassiades will be presenting his work in two exhibitions at Euroluce during the Milan Furniture Fair next month.

For the very first time, Anastassiades will present his collection of wall and pendant lights as part of the Salone del Mobile.

The range includes Michael’s production pieces with an emphasis on the mobile chandeliers. Each design combines fine detailing with honestly expressed materials which reinforce their elegant simplicity; with forms often derived from geometry and on a monumental scale.

The event will also see the launch of a new floor-standing mobile light called 'MC5'.

Michael Anastassiades will also present 'Lit Lines' at an exhibition organised by Gallery Nilufar at Palazzo Durini, alongside work by Patricia Urquiola and Andrea Branzi.

Michael says:

“I designed this family of lights after my extensive journeys to India, to places where, at night, long linear bulbs hang in random configurations. Each arrangement is a spontaneous creative act that solves a practical problem.

The fluorescent tubes, naked in plastic casings, are mounted on metal brackets or even oddly tied on buildings or trees. The supports and unrefined casings completely disappear in the dark, and all that remains are the bright silhouettes. Moving through these, one starts to see images of familiar objects.

And just at the point of recognising something, the viewing angle changes and the shapes become ambiguous, attenuated almost rarefied.”
