Tokujin Yoshioka has designed 'Mi-Ami' for Italian furniture manufacturer Kartell which will be on show in Milan soon.
It's just one of the pieces on show as part of Kartell's 'Kartell♥Milano' project which will be held at the Kartell Flagship store in Milan during the 50th edition of the Salone del Mobile.
Kartell♥Milano is a charity project in tribute to the city of Milan, which saw the company's beginning and its successes, right from its earliest stages in the 1950s.
Kartell has picked a huge number of personalities who are symbols of the city - whether they were born in the city or not, but who have become part of it through their personal or professional relationship with it - to create a new and original collection of its icons revisited and re-interpreted through the theme of 'Act of Love'.
Tokujin will be presenting 'Mi-Ami', a new a fresh twist on his 'Ami Ami' chair first presented by Kartell in 2008. The new glittering foil version was inspired by a famous quote from Plato:
"At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet."
Other participants include big names from a number of creative disciplines; Todolfo Dordoni, Dolce&Gabbana, Piero Lissoni, Umberto Veronesi, Antonio Marras, Missoni, Philippe Starck, Moschino, and Patricia Urquiola (amongst others) will all be joining in.
Later, Kartell will also be organising a charity auction of these new designs, the proceeds of which will go to the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi.
Plus, for the following year, anyone who makes purchases at the Milan flagship will see a percentage of the purchase slip devolved by Kartell upon the Milanese foundation devoted to the progress of science.
