Like Rienhard Dienes, StudioCharlie will be bringing a roster of new designs for several different firms to the Milan Salone this year.
They've created a sideboard, a chair and a liitle set of coffee table/stool hybrids; two of which share a sea creature-themed name, and all of which are bold head-turners.
The 'Conchiglia' (literally; 'shell') sideboard is built around the idea of a portion of a spiral. As the geometric form develops, the size of the doors increases, and where the details become invisible at the origin of the spiral there is a void, a concentrated space.
The sideboard's square shape and compact mass give strength to its presence. Conchiglia comes in different colours and the doors have either a matte or shiny finish.
'Aragosta' (which means 'lobster') is a solid wood chair produced by Italian manufacturer Billiani. So-called because its shape recalls that of the red crustacean with its powerful body, fine legs and antennae; this sturdy little chair gently rests on the ground, on the tips of its tapered legs.
Aragosta is produced in two versions; stackable and non-stackable, and is made from ash wood in a natural finish or lacquered in a choice of colours - including lobster red.
And finally, StudioCharlie's 'Primitivi' coffee table and stools which are designed for collective use - perhaps around a fire.
Their design evokes old symbols to mind; things like querns, cogs, and early stone wheels.
The furniture is visually heavy, in contrast with its actual lightness thanks to them actually being made in lightweight aluminium.
