'Folio' shelves for Established and Sons.

FOLIO SHELVES AND PIANI LAMPS BY RONAN AND ERWAN BOUROULLEC

As promised, here's a couple more of the new pieces that French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec will be taking to Milan next week for the Salone del Mobile.

'Folio', which the Bouroullecs have created for Established & Sons, is their simple, light and easy-to-use answer to the question of finding inventive, simple ways to tidy up a room space.

It's a question that has apparently always bugged the brothers and this piece offers up a new typology of furniture; occupying the space between the functionality of basic shelves and the more elaborate option provided by a chest with mechanical doors.

In that sense, it provides the possibility to hide some - or all - of the objects that stand on the oak shelves just by moving a piece of felt that delicately runs along a discreet aluminium rack system.

'Piani' is a new work for Italian lighting firm Flos.

The Piani collection is made of a flat base and a flat top, with the base either acting as a tray so that objects can be displayed in a triangular beam of light (as if on stage) or in its longer version, a shelf,  so that more objects can be supported by this hybrid design.

Piani comes in a bright plastic version as well as in oak wood and basalt stone in the shelving versions so that different sensual experiences are suggested.
