Israeli designers Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay of Raw Edges Studio caught our eye this morning with their bright 'Coiling Collection' designed exclusively for FAT Galerie in Paris.
'Coiling' is a range of interior objects crafted from long strips of wool felt which are coiled and then formed into a 3D object.
One side of the felt has been left soft, whilst the other side is covered with acrylic resin. The felt absorbs the acrylic into its fibres and together they set into a structural build.
The principle is apparently inspired by composite material, a combination between structural and volumetric materials, similar to reinforced concrete or the ancient cob set from mud and straw.
Chairs, stools, rug, lamps and coffee tables make up the series - all hand-crafted with each piece signed and numbered.
