CONTAINER SIDEBOARD BY ALAIN GILLES

The 'Container Sideboard' is a new project from Alain Gilles, recently designed for the Italian firniture firm Casamania.

Alain's piece first made its debut in Milan this year at the Casamania presentation, and it also featured at the Pinacoteca di Brera in the Fuorisalone as part of the 'Belgium is Design' exposition curated by Giovanna Massoni.

Container is a modular sideboard system with a base made of Elm and topped with lacquered MDF elements.

"It is really a research on deconstruction and reconstruction." says Alain, "...as if a 'standard' sideboard with its different storage functionalities had been split into various elements just to be reconstructed in a different, uneven manner."

Essentially comprised of a 'landing dock', as a base, and a number of 'containers' that can be set one on top of the other, the piece is characterised further by the association of different materials and finishes applied to each structural element.

By playing with different types of finishes and settings, several furniture pieces with their own personalities and functions can easily be created form the same original elements.

We think this is nice stuff; a sideboard, a dresser, media storage cabinet or television stand all in one and suitable for pretty much every room in the house...
