EQUILIBRIUM AND COSTELLO BY METHOD FURNITURE

Emerging Scottish atelier Method Furniture will be unveiling pieces from their new collection at 100% Futures during the 2011 edition of the London Design Festival in September.

And here's a sneak peek at what they've been working on; 'Equilibrium' and 'Costello'.

From their studio-workshop in the East of Scotland creative director and second generation cabinetmaker Callum Robinson, along with design director and Mackintosh School of Architecture alumni Marisa Giannasi produce a superbly handcrafted range of elegant contemporary furniture infused with detail, heritage, honesty and integrity.

'Equilibrium' - the concept for which was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy earlier this year - is a playful experimentation with the illusion of weightlessness, hand-crafted from solid hardwood and powder coated steel.

It’s a striking and utilitarian storage piece which we like a lot, based on classic modernist architectural forms.

'Costello' is a writing desk with drawers lined in rich electric-blue Scottish leather; and its understated silhouette belies the 40 hand-shaped components and over 60 traditional joints that combine to make each one utterly unique.

Pieces from the duo's debut collection featured Timorous Beasties infamous Glasgow toile and incorporated the work of graffiti artist Klingatron and Edinburgh custom tattoo legend Alex Rattray – and this year they'll be revealing an intriguing International Furniture Vs Fashion collaboration too.

We think this'll be worth the wait...
