'Tesla 1 and 2'.

WORKS BY KRANEN GILLE

We've spent the morning exploring the portfolio of Dutch design studio Kranen/Gille, whose take on deconstructed industrial elements is a fascinating one.

Founded in 2007 by Jos Kranen and Johannes Gille, Kranen/Gille is a design studio based in the south of the Netherlands.

The pair, who met during their studies at Design Academy Eindhoven, seem to be always seeking new combinations of materials, using know-how from a variety of disciplines and craft techniques.

As they admit themselves, all their pieces "seem to breathe industrial revolution" but there's also a hint of their love for natural structures in the mix too - the photography of Karl Blossfeldt is another of their references.

We're especially loving some of the lights they've developed in the last couple of years, from the molten lava-esque 'Tesla' lamps in bronze, to the simplicity of the more recent 'Candelabra' mirror, as well as the machine-like coffee table, desk and lamp series 'Island'.
