As a student of architecture and a practitioner of furniture design, we think Justin Richards' work blurs the two trades rather nicely, and recently, he's been developing a 'hybrid notion of designed intervention' - approaching architecture from a level of detail found in furniture design, and designing furniture with consideration for its architectural impact.
These 'Infill' nesting tables are new works from Richards, completed during his residency at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, in Snowmass Village, Colorado.
Made up of a Baltic birch grid, which has been partially filled with solid maple cubes, the surface is an upredictable exercise in geometry; tactile and warm thanks to the wood, yet perfect and linear.
