FLOAT GLASSWARE BY MOLO

We're a bit in love with this beautifully simple glassware series from Canadian design studio Molo.

Collectively called 'Float', each piece in the collection is designed with clean lines to emphasise the colours and charms of the tea, scotch, juice, or anything else you serve within.

The suspended bowl design of the Float pieces creates a lens of liquid colour that projects a play of coloured light onto the table top.

However, while it all looks very simple, each piece actually requires a rather sophisticated technical process, plus a high level of skill, to produce. Each piece is handcrafted by master glassblowers in the Czech Republic from the finest waterclear German borosilicate glass which is extremely pure, chemically inert, and totally resistant to thermal shock, allowing all float glassware to safely be used with both boiling hot and icy cold liquids.

The unique suspended bowl design of the pieces - aside from creating the floating illusion - further performs the practical function of insulating the hand from the beverage.

When used for a chilled drink, small beads of condensation will accumulate on the underbelly of the bowl, adding delicacy to the optical effect; rather than making nasty rings on your table top.

The Float tea lantern, the signature piece of the collection, is made with a double glass wall, which encloses a vacuum and creates a thermally insulated space to maintain a hot, or icy cold serving temperature.

This allows the tea vessel to maintain the simple form of a cylinder, to be held and poured directly without the added appendage of a handle. With the tea light candle lit below the tea lantern, the ambient light, together with the colour, fragrance and steam of the tea, transcends the pragmatic to create a space and an engaging experience.

Just gorgeous.
