These great 'Stratigraphic' cups are by Antwerp-based design duo Claire Warnier and Dries Verbruggen who set up their studio together, Unfold, in 2002.
To make the ceramic beakers, Unfold created a 3D-printer which is based on the Open Source Reprap printer, with the goal of turning it into a clay printer.
The 3D-printer is controlled by a computer, just like a normal printer and the 3D-clay printer can directly materialise digital designs.
Each of the cups has its own number which refers to the number of facets that make up the base of the cup. The ‘Stratigraphic Cups’ were printed in an limited edition of 15 series' of 4 cups (n°5, n°8, n°13 and n°22), with a white porcelain, transparent glaze inside.
Want to get hold of a set?
Well, the cups currently make up part of a collection available from a newly launched online gallery venture called Moozeum, who are showcasing a superb selection of contemporary art and design objects.
Moozeum is the initiative of Stefan Vanbergen and Inge Vanluyd from Belgian creative bureau Mooz which, alongside its own exhibitions and creative projects for a variety of towns and cities also oversees the communication and press relations for cultural centres and designer brands.
Cross-overs between different creative disciplines form the common thread for Moozeum's dynamic collection which offers an interesting reflection of the relationship between art and applied art.
Alongside the Stratigraphic cups, they've also got unique pieces in limited editions, and an exclusive Moozeum collection with works by both established names and up-and-coming talent, including Sofie Boons (jewels), Noortje De la Haye (graphic work), Linde Hermans (design), Lore Langendries (jewels), Jan Marechal (art), Liesje Reyskens (art photography) and Karen Wuytens (design).
Well worth a click then.
