This unusual interior piece has been designed by Raphael Navot for Cappellini, and is called, rather mysteriously, 'POH'.
First presented in April at the 2011 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, this prototype object also has a rather mysterious function, being designed as "...a form and sculpture, existing purely for its own sake..." with the functional definition deliberately absent and unprescribed by Navot.
That said, this approach frees it up a little, meaning it's up to you to decide the use. We reckon it'd make a beautiful coffee table or bench, and POH's organic appearance – created from a patchwork of rough wooden pieces - means it would probably withstand outdoor use too.
These wood components are apparently also both old and new; combined according to a computer generated layout and then sent to a digitally controlled machine that cuts the form in three dimensions.
This means that each item is unique but can also potentially be reproduced.
Consequently, given the artisan nature of the design and build process, M.E also suspects that POH is also one of those things which is POA.
