I MISS SWAN BY FRANCOIS MANGEOL

Designer François Mangeol has recently created this sweet liitle light for Edition Sous Etiquette callled 'I Miss Swan' in tribute to Joseph Swan and the incandescent light bulb - an artefact now fast disappearing with the introduction of new LED technology.

Comprised of a simple spun glass cone and a beech wood base, the lamp was first launched at Maison et Objet early this year.

"I Miss Swan is a lantern, a kind of indoor night-light. This contemporary object associates sensitive and tactile know-hows and materials with these new bulbs that don’t need to be replaced anymore because they don’t blow. In a nutshell, it just blends into your everyday life." says Mangeol.

Embodying the "...alchemy between precision and softness." I Miss Swan has an appealing simplicity, and the durable, precious materials Mangeol has utilised raises issues about the way we deal with extinction, substitution and change.

"We used to replace bulbs didn’t we? What are we most likely to replace nowadays - the bulb or the lamp?"
