These candlesticks, inspired by Istanbul twilight, willl soon be on show at Gallery Sofie Lachaert as part of an exhibition called 'Candles and Mirrors' which opens on the 5th of February.
Designed by Siba Sahabi, Istanbul Twilight comprises seven candleholders, made of felt, dedicated to the metropolis that connects Europe and the Middle East.
The shape of the candleholders are directly inspired by the silhouette of Istanbul's skyline, while the use of colours reflect different shades of light on city facades at dusk and dawn.
Siba's choice of material for the candlesticks is a deliberate one, based on a certain characteristic of wool; that it doesn’t catch fire.
To make each piece, Siba has cut wool felt into long strips, and then coiled it by hand into circles like a snake.
The exhibition 'Candles and Mirrors' runs until April the 8th in the gallery in St. Jozefstraat 30, 9140 Tielrode, Belgium and explores the concepts of beauty, symbolism and mysteriousness of mirrors and candles in art through the ages.
