One of the best things about Valletta is the opportunity for exploration, and for history buffs, the city offers the highest concentration of historic monuments in the world with 320 of them crammed into only 0.55 square kilometres. A lovely weekend stroll around Valletta in the winter sunshine can’t be beaten. One of our favourite walks is the path along the sea: Descend the steps by the Mediterranean Conference Centre and walk along the shore through spectacular cut rock which goes all the way round, (make sure you pause for a photo/kiss/look over the edge at the breakwater stairs) ending up at Cockney's restaurant on Marsamxett Wharf, where you can reward yourself with a steaming plate of pasta. This small restaurant tucked into the bastion wall seems to have recently grown in popularity over summer for Sunday lunches on the terrace, but they’re equally well geared up for winter. If your legs are still tired from all those steps or you’ve eaten too much then call an electric mini cab to scoot you back up into the centre.
