Popular with locals and tourists alike, Trabuxu is a historic little cellar at the top of Strait Street that has been transformed into an intimate wine bar. There's a small but perfectly formed menu offering dips and other colourful platters perfect for grazing, but also hearty all-to-yourself dishes such as a first-rate veggie lasagne. Take your pick from the superb selection of local and foreign wines. Maestro e Fresco is just around the corner too. Continuing with the theory that the best things come in small packages, we should also mention the teeny tiny Legligin on St Lucy Street which is a bit like drinking in a little living room, and scores very highly on the cosy factor. Bring your friends and/or beloved, order some nibbles and settle in for the evening. For a bit of Old School glamour, you should head for the chic colonial style Club Bar at the Phoenicia. Partly due to its location in a hotel, it’s not a venue on most Maltese residents lists, but it should be. Open from six in the evening, there’s nothing more decadent than a glass of champers on a Friday after work. Chin chin.
