There is currently a big hoo-hah going on in the blogosphere about the brilliance of Chanel's hoedown themed show, but good as it was, we still can't get over Viktor and Rolf's S/S 2010 collection. And might we add, they got Róisín Murphy, not Lily Allen, to do a number at their show...
In answer to the big credit crunch issue, the designers allegedly decided to cut ballgowns not budgets and they did so with the verve and creativity we expect from them.
Lest we forget, this was S/S 2010 pret a porter - not couture - and in amongst the bansaw-ed tulle, there were plenty of very lovely silken dresses, flowy trousers and tuxedo shapes which were much more applicable to civilians. 30s themed lingerie as outerwear seems to be a recurring theme in Paris (insert naff reference/pun related to the phrase 'ooh la la' here) and Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren got to grips with slippery lacy stuff in the most elegant of ways.
This collection both allowed the pair to showcase their imaginations and provide shoppers with something chic, grown-up and feminine for summer evening dressing.
Queen of quirk Murphy might have been present, resplendent in a foamy blush skirt dress from the designers, but you can bet your bottom dollar her younger (and madder) fashion rival Lady Gaga will be putting her order in for some of the more flamboyant pieces here.
