Embrace those curves. No, nothing to do with trite fashion mag girl talk, instead we'd like to show you designer John Green's curvaceous bent ply storage unit called 'Embrace' which was on show at 100% Design London.
The original brief was to design a modern take on the Isokon Penguin Donkey that was within 10% of the original's dimensions. The outcome was “Embrace” - a piece of furniture designed to store modern media such as DVD's, CD’s and magazines. This smart piece of furniture forms two low tables that then 'embrace' together in order to form a storage unit, magazine rack, seat or occasional table. It's simple, attractive and clever, which is mostly likely why it's already picked up an award from the CSD (Chartered Society of Designers).
As a fresh graduate, Green is launching his own collection of well-designed minimal products, and on top of developing stuff for his own brand he also works as a freelance designer, collaborating with other designers and manufacturers.
Green is currently collaborating with furniture and interior specialists Snowhome to design a new product range - we'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this.
