Ever wondered what a report about Earth from the Martian perspective would look like? Maybe something like this..
Ralph Wu, a graphic designer from Taiwan who graduated this summer after studying Editorial Design MaHKU in the Netherlands, took on a virtual identity from Mars - 'Marson' and manipulated it to observe human behaviour. The result was a booklet, encompassing both Eastern and Western culture and querying the definition of humanity.
By the end of his research, he found nine different visual communication methods which can be placed in any graphic design situation.
Peppered with quotes from key humans such as Einsten, Ghandi, Mao Tse Tung, John Lennon, Confucius, and Sima Qian, 'Marson's' illustrated report about Earth and man is a fascinating, visually engaging piece of work. M.E. particularly likes the photo montage style illustrations that mix Nintendo icons with philosophers and scientists in a palette of green, black and red.
"For me, editorial design is telling a story by integrating images and texts, and discovers the relations between the context and content. I believe if graphic design can catch people's attention by the functional aesthetics, and help people remember the information in long term; then graphic design's functionality is able to evolve to its maximum volume in our society." Says Wu.
He's currently on the lookout for a job placement following his graduation, either in the Netherlands or Mars.
We think the sky is the limit for this young talent.
