Nina Bruun is a twenty-six year old designer based in Copenhagen. Although she's currently busy finishing her Masters degree at the Danish School of Design, Bruun still found time to exhibit her 'Fold' chair concept at this year's Stockholm Furniture Fair.
Inspired by paperfolding and the Japanese art of Origami, Bruun set herself three parameters; one, using upholstery in a different and modern way, two, the chair had to be foldable, and three, it had to reference both Scandinavian and Japanese design.
The frame consists of 10 mm plywood cut into six profiles and assembled with hinges. The shell consists of six pieces of hard plastic, which she padded with foam on both sides of the plastic and then finished the piece with woollen felt. Incredibly, all of the seams on the chair were hand sewn taking 105 hours to do in all.
No word yet if the piece will go into production, but if it does, put our name down on the waiting list.
