Ceramic handle with found blade

TO THE POINT

These objects are the work of student Laura Plant, who has just graduated from Camberwell with a BA in Ceramics.

Working with clay, she hand-built these sculptural knife forms and new handles for found knife blades for her final degree show; an approach which focuses heavily on craftsmanship.

"The handmade quality of my ceramics is an important part of the narrative" she says.

And the story behind these pieces?

"My Dad is a butcher and my friend Sarah is afraid of being stabbed." Laura explains.

"I am interested in the contradictions in how knives are viewed. An everyday tool with the potential to become a dangerous weapon.

I hope to use the drama and tension this paradox causes to stimulate thought."
