RALPH LAUREN ART STARS 2011

Last year Polo Jeans Co. Ralph Lauren commissioned over 50 of Europe’s most exciting contemporary artists to customise three dimensional stars made from fine American denim, and with the iconic Stars and Stripes flag for inspiration, each artist created something totally unique.

Now this year's competition is now in full swing, on the hunt for the next generation of Art Stars.

The 16 winners of the contest will experience a week-long, in-studio session under the guidance of a mentor artist, a €1,000 commission prize with €500 for material costs, and the resulting works will later be exhibited in some of the world’s most important cities.

The competition has pulled in a roster of seriously established artists, including Case and Jasper Joffe, to act as mentors for the winners.

Click above to watch street artist Alëxone - who is also lined up to be a mentor - giving a talk at the Galerie L.J. in Paris about his inspiration from music, to books, figurative street art as well as his main love which is typographic graffiti.
