Here are some of the projects that the students of ECAL (University of Art and Design Lausanne) will be presenting during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
These pieces were created for Baccarat by students studying on the Master in Design and Luxury Industry (MAS-Luxe) course and will be showcased in an exhibition at Mauro Brucoli Antiquario on Via della Spiga 17.
The MAS-Luxe is a 10-month ECAL programme, which enables students from around the world to work in collaboration with manufacturers such as Audemars Piguet, Hublot, Nespresso, Bernardaud, Baccarat, Reuge or Christofle.
For Baccarat, the students worked under the direction of Ed Barber and Jay Osgerby to reinterpret the brand’s icon, the famous Harcourt glassware, which will be 170 years old this year.
The project was set in motion by a visit to the factory site in Lorraine, at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, where the students discovered crystal glassmaking, with the monumental ovens and the millimetric precision of the production process of pieces that are still made by hand today.
According to ECAL;
"From the iconoclasm of the Harcourt lollipop to a reappropriation of the glasses as chess pieces, the new designs proposed by the students not only demonstrate their keen interest in crystal, but are a reminder that the Harcourt style is indeed timeless."
