SALMIAK BY SIMO SERPOLA

Here's more Finnish design launching at DMY Berlin this weekend, this time by Simo Serpola.

Serpola, who has just graduated this year from the Design Institute of Lahti will be presenting 'Salmiak' - a large scale light and room divider.

Salmiakki is a traditional Finnish candy, which is a little like liquorice, and the simultaneously salty and sweet treat served as inspiration for this piece.

Infinitely rearrangeable, it offers a creative way to both light and divide a space. Serpola's bold design is two sided and made from 220 mm square Priplak sheets.

Plans for a smaller, colourful version are apparently in the works; hoping Simo has enough time since he'll be continuing his design studies at Aalto University on an MA level.
