Sometimes it's good to think big; which is exactly what German-born design student, Jan Rose has been doing for his MA thesis at Central Saint Martins in London.
His project, called 'The Knitting Craftsman' is a furniture and tool collection which explores the technique of knitting as a manufacturing technique.
With a craftsman's focus on process and material qualities but advanced by the modern capacities of industry, Rose designed machines with which to hand-knit his objects.
From a massive donut-shaped, 'Urban Pouf' for outdoors knitted from high-tension stainless steel thread, to leather lampshades, via 'Storage Nets' knitted out of seatbelt material, we think this is both innovative and beautifully realised.
