CMYK LAMP BY DENNIS PARREN

Designer Dennis Parren has recently graduated from the Man and Living department of the Design Academy in Eindhoven with this intriguing project called the CMYK Lamp.

"You can’t really say 'that chair is 'red'." says Parren of his idea behind the lamp.

"Actually, the chair is reflecting red light while absorbing green and blue light. It is the light that colours the world. This CMYK Lamp plays with the mystery of light and colour and projects an elusive network of lines of cyan, magenta and yellow light on the ceiling."

Designed not to be 'understood', but to physically show that light is the only rightful owner of colour, Parren's lamp uses LED technology - a revolution in lighting - to demonstrate its advantages, and give an example of what lighting can truly be.

And some of the results of his experimental lamp were unexpected - the shadows it casts turned out to be 3D.

"Led light gives me new opportunities." says Parren.

"My head is full of ideas. The future of light is bright."
