French designer Marie Dessuant has recently created this beautfully simple vase called 'Deserto'.
Utilising the traditional Venetian technique of blown glass, Marie's single flower vase is inspired by the last drop in an empty bottle; highlighting the idea of a
desert and its lack of water.
The vase is part of the the work Marie has been doing with Italian design lab Fabrica, who in turn have just collaborated with the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
The result of this is an exhibition entitled ‘Shared Glass' which showcases the results of a recent workshop attended by students of VCUQatar’s MFA Design Studies and Fabrica's designers. Through this workshop, a collection of hybrid glass objects were developed: pieces that mixed and matched Middle Eastern and Western influences, shapes, and functions.
The exhibition - which includes 'Deserto' - is currently on show at Katara Art Center in Duhar, Qatar, and runs unti the 7th of January, 2012.
Project participants include Boym and VCUQatar MFA students Alia Khairat, Amin Matni, Rania Chamsine, Corby Elford, Imad Fadel and Sameh Ibrahim. Sam Baron, design director at Fabrica, and Valentina Carretta, Amaury Poudray, Dean Brown, Margaux Keller, Marie Dessuant are the collaborators from Fabrica.
